Candidates are first hard-filtered by length (±tolerance), deck colour, and (if given) beam. Survivors are then ranked on two layers:
Appearance — how closely length / beam match your measurement.
AIS (if enabled) — was the vessel plausibly there & then?
present boosts,
nearby mildly boosts,
alibi (track far away at the time) rules out,
dark (no AIS) is neutral — never penalised.
A laden/lightened draught change adds weight.
Reachability & heading (for dark vessels) — if the last coherent fix was too far to physically reach the sighting,
unreachable rules it out; a course → toward the sighting nudges up, ← away nudges down.
These are skipped on GNSS-jammed or erratic tracks so spoofing can't manufacture a false exclusion.
Spoofed pings (impossible jumps) are dropped before scoring. Scores are a relative ranking, not a calibrated probability.

Tuning
0 possible STS / raft
Heuristic (S2 optical / S1 CFAR). Clouds/land may add false boxes. Wide blobs flagged as possible STS. Click a box → "Who Is This?", or Mark STS / Merge to split or join hulls.
Manual boxes
In draw mode: drag on the map to draw. Click a box to edit it — orange dot = move, blue = rotate, teal squares = resize sides, red × (or Delete key) = remove. Two touching boxes turn pink. Boxes lock when you exit the mode.
SWIR tuning
NIR/SWIR detection channel (Sentinel Hub). Raise LOW until the sea is black, lower HIGH toward LOW until the ships are white, then Apply. Mostly SWIR, so glint-resistant.

Import Satellite Scene
Overlay a colour-stretch-corrected scene (e.g. SPOT 6) on the map using its metadata AOI. Pick the rendered PNG and its SkyWatch metadata JSON — the scene is shown for this session only (nothing is stored until you crop a vessel into the catalogue or sightings).
Add Ship to Catalogue
OR
Add to Existing Ship
Tag Sighting
Provisional observation — stored separately from the catalogue. All fields except position and time are optional.
Sightings
0 suspects | 0 sightings
No sightings tagged yet. Use “Tag Sighting” on a displayed scene to add one.
No ships in catalogue yet. Select a ship from imagery to add it.
Search Positions
×
Enter the time range to search for AIS broadcasts within the area you drew.
DWT filter is optional.
Draw area to search
×
How do you want to render this area?
Playback
×
Show every AIS broadcast inside the area you drew over up to a 24-hour window.
Each position is plotted with the vessel-type colour scheme.
AIS Search Results
×
Search by Place Name
Find LLI ports, anchorages, terminals etc. by name. Click a result to fill the Coordinates field. Append ~ to a name to suppress fuzzy matching.
Track Vessel
Plot a vessel's AIS position history over a time window of up to 30 days.
Up to 3 vessels can be plotted at once.
Plot Vessels
Filter the catalogue by characteristics, then plot each candidate's nearest AIS position to a target time. Length and Deck Colour are required.
Candidates
Who Is This?
Match an unknown vessel against the catalogue by appearance. Length is required; deck colour and beam narrow further. Returns a ranked shortlist of likely candidates, optionally re-ranked with AIS positions and your tagged sightings.
